Will Anybody Care?

Harold Fritts

--

When trees burn and forests explode
Does anybody care?
When the polar ice melts into the sea
Is anyone aware?
If a species goes from protected to extinct
Is that enough to scare?

Does anybody care?
Is anyone aware?
Does anybody care?

When the earth is scorched and on fire,
Will it be enough to act?
When it’s too hot to venture out
Will we ignore or react?
When the beaches are filled with trash
Will we ignore the facts?

Does anybody care?
Is anyone aware?
Does anybody care?

Humans run away from the flames
Sentencing wildlife to die
And those that survive the carnage
Forage for anything to stay alive
But when the land is laid bare
Life becomes unresponsive

Does anybody care?
Is anyone aware?
Does anybody care?

Will there still be something left
For our children to inherit?
Is it too late to make the changes
For our planet to benefit?
Will generations survive our misuse
Or suffer because of it?

Does anybody care?
Is anyone aware?
Does anybody care?

Often you cannot see the damage
It lies just below the surface
Shifting currents that kill the fish
Or land destroyed without prejudice
Coral reefs that once were vibrant
Devoid of life, color and grace

Does anybody care?
Is anyone aware?
Does anybody care?

When will politicians take action
To address the warming climate
Instead of offering veiled lip service
Without addressing our pending fate
No one is held to account for the lies
No one hears the child’s cries.

Does anybody care?
Is anyone aware?
Does anybody care?
